EL AMOR DE DIOS ILUSTRADO

En el Edén, Dios estableció la primera familia. Después de crear a Adán, dijo: “No es bueno que el hombre esté solo: le haré ayuda idónea para él” (Génesis 2:18). A partir de una costilla de Adán, Dios formó a Eva. Entonces les dijo: “Fructificad y multiplicaos” (Génesis 1:28). Los niños habrían de realzar la unión y garantizar el futuro de la raza humana.

A lo largo de la historia, las familias han formado la unidad básica de la sociedad. La escritora Elena White, una de las fundadoras de la iglesia, escribió: “El vínculo de la familia es el más estrecho, el más tierno y sagrado de la tierra” (El hogar cristiano, p. 14). A pesar de ello, a lo largo de la historia, Satanás ha atacado a las familias, ya sea mediante la poligamia, el adulterio, la rivalidad entre hermanos, la homosexualidad y la pornografía. Cuando las familias sufren fracturas, lo mismo sucede con los individuos del grupo familiar.

Gracias a Dios, su obra se enfoca en la preservación y restauración de las familias. La Biblia brinda numerosos ejemplos del poder restaurador de Dios, tales como el caso de la mujer atrapada en adulterio (Juan 8:1-11) y el del hijo pródigo (Lucas 15:11-32). Asimismo, Dios usa las relaciones familiares como símbolos de su relación con nosotros. En repetidas ocasiones, Jesús se refirió a Dios como “Nuestro padre” y a sí mismo como “el Esposo”.

Jesús quiso comunicar que Dios, al igual que un buen padre, se siente conectado para siempre con nosotros, y que desea bendecirnos y salvarnos. Y al igual que un esposo amante, Jesús nos trata con perdón y devoción. El libro de Oseas culmina con las palabras del Señor a su pueblo: “Te desposaré conmigo para siempre; te desposaré conmigo en justicia, juicio, benignidad y misericordia” (Oseas 2:19).

The over-arching objective of Adventist Family Ministries is to strengthen the family as a discipling center. The family was established by divine creation as the fundamental human institution. It is the primary setting in which values are learned and the capacity for close relationships with God and with other human beings is developed.

Adventist Family Ministries is a ministry of grace which acknowledges as normative the biblical teachings relating to the family and holds high God’s ideals for family living. At the same time, it brings an understanding of the brokenness experienced by individuals and families in a fallen world. Thus, Adventist Family Ministries seeks to enable families to stretch toward divine ideals, while at the same time ever extending the good news of God’s saving grace and the promise of growth possible through the indwelling Spirit.

Adventist Family Ministries focuses on people in relationship. It is a ministry that provides tools for couples, parents and children, single adults, and all members of the wider family circle as they pass through life’s predictable stages and confront unexpected changes in their lives.

Our History

Organized ministry for families within the Seventh-day Adventist Church began with the establishment of the Home Commission in 1919. Arthur Spalding, an educator and editor whom Ellen G. White had convinced in 1913 to dedicate his life to the training of parents, served from 1922 to 1941 as secretary of the Home Commission.
